WELLINGTON.

RAILWAY STOCK

[Special to “Times.”] WELLINGTON, Dec. 12. One of the big engines intended for use on the heavy grades of the Main Trunk Line has been constructed m sections at the Addington workshops and is now being erected at Petono. Another of the same class will arrive here in a- few weeks and sleeping cars are under construction.

NEW ZEALAND’S NAME. .Messrs 'Ross and Sutherland, of the Wairarapa, who have just returnedto JX'eiv Zealand, have informed the Tourist Department that while the Franco-British exhibition generally was most attractive, the New Zealand display was unworthy of the occasion. There was plenty of good material, but it was most indifferently displayed. On the other hand (says the “Post”) the fair name of New Zealand has been proclaimed from the pulpit in America, and a New Zealand preacher was waited upon after his sermon at Indianopolis by a merchant who wanted to know more about the happy state of the people of these fortunate isles. The preacher gave out all the information lie possessed, furnishing details which did not come into his pulpit discourse and finally recommended his enquirer to address the Tourist Department here, which he did, enclosing one dollar for postage.
