The Manawatu Racing Club’s summer meeting opened -to-day ‘ in cold and wet weather. £7926 was put through the machine, compared with £10,901 on the corresponding day last year. The proceeds from bookmakers amounted to about £3OO. The results of the racing were as follows : Highden Handicap Hurdles,. 100 sovs., li miles: Mr H. M. Speed’s Dnil, 10.11, (W. Young) 1; Mr W. Griffith’s Commander, 11.5, (T. Pine) 2; Mr J. O’Neill’s Coy,. (OwO’Neilil) 3. Also started: Yosami. Won easily by two lengths, Commander a neck in front of Coy. Time: 2min. 49sec. Maiden Plate, of 100 sots., seven furlongs: Mr Highden’s Perolina, 7.8, (R. Hatch) 1: Mr R. Allen’s Courier, 7.7., (ArOTliver) 2; Mr F. G. Roe’s Thetis, 7.2, (M. Fraser) 3. Also started: Finesseur, Telcu, Waioru, Aborbrothock, Pikiho, Bell and Merrie Messenger. Won comfortably by a length and a half, Thetis a length away, third. Also .started: Kopi, Sunbonnet, Truga,nini, Carrissima and Flotilla. Won easily by a length and a half. Glenoulloch beat Vasa 'by a head. Time: lmin. 42secs. Palmerston North Stakes (third), of 500 sovs., six furlongs: Mr JR. McDonald’s Gold Crest, 9.3,-(C. Jenkins) 1; Mr G. Foreman’s Full Rate, 8.12, (Hatch) 2; Mr D. Buick’s Rangipapa 9.6, OS. Reid) 3. Also started : Penates, Boanerges and Kiltie Lass. At the five furlong post Full Rate was in front, but on reaching the bottom turn Gold Crest came with a fast run and, entering the straight, was on terms with the leader, winning easily. . Terrace Hack Welter, 100 so vs., 1 mile: Mr F. Dorset’s Blue Ribbon, 9.3, (A. Jpliver) 1; Mr E. G. Watt’s Separator, S.S, (R. Hatch) 2; Mr M.' T. McGrath’s Osiris, 8.8, (W. Ryan) 3. Also started : Passive, Espartero, Shannon Lass, Windage, North East and Paione. Won comfortably. Time: lmin 45sec.
