CHRISTMAS.
, HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS. -
Christmas is the principal holiday of the ycaj and all who can afford, time to thoroughly enjoy the festive season do so. The steamers that left for the North and (South yesterday were well filled with holiday seekers, and quite a large number of people a“ leaving tewu to-day for Morere Wairoa and Lake Waikaremoana. However, to counterbalance the large number of Gisbormtes who have gone to seek recreation elsewhere, there is a great influx of visitors to the town. The banks, and business and Government offices will be closed from to-day until Tuesday morning next, and general business holidays will be observed to-morrow and on. Saturday (Box-To-day a wood-chopping competition will be held in Mr Con. Norman s paddock at Ormond, and the business places will remain open until 10 o’clock. To-morrow, Christmas Day, services w iU be held in the Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches. The Uniscope Picture Company will give a performance in His Majesty a Theatre to-morrow evening.
BOXING DAY. On Boxing Day the Fire Brigade will hold a competition in front of the station in the morning, the first event being timed to start at b a.m. Sports w'ill be held at M aerenga-a-liika, and the Whatatutu Racing Club wil l hold their annual races on the Whatatutu racecourse.. In the evening a social will -be held, in the King’s Theatre, Te Karaka, and the Uniscope Picture Company will give their second performance in His Majesty’s Theatre. On Monday the Ngawin Maori Racing Club will hold a race meeting on the Whatatutu racecourse.
