CHRISTCHURCH,' Dec. 23
At a meeting of the Christchurch Fire Board to-night it was resolved, on account of the refusal of the men to sign the form of agreement which had been submitted to them detailing the conditions of employment and the wages to he jjaid, to dispense with 12 members of the permanent staff.
" Mr A. M. Eick, of the Metrbpolitan Fire Brigade, was appointed superintendent in succession to (Superintendent Smith.
