A VOLUNTEER INQUIRY.
ALLEGED IRREGULARITIES AT
OAMARU
[Press Association.]
OAMARU, Dec. 22. A statement that the Military Court of Inquiry exonerated certain officers is doubted by many in view of the declaration of secrecy made by members of the Court. Whatever may bo the result of the inquiiy, there is absolutely no doubt that the alleged offences, which were preferred at tlie instance of the officer commanding tlio district, were sufficiently serious to warrant investigation. It is rumored that a certain document relative to the inquiry mysteriously disappeared. It is stated on authority winch cannot bo ignored, that with, regard to tlio attendance of the Oamaru Rifled at the 'Easter manoeuvres tlio number fell short of tho requisite half muster to earn personal payment by a good many, and this must have been known to every officer connected with the battalion in camp, with regard to paid daylight parades, it is also stated that it can be easily proved that at least one man returned as present was working many miles away from Oamaru on the afternoon the parade was stated to 'kaye been held Feeling is running high in volunteer circles, and it is nnderstood unless the matter is treated v ith due significance at least one company and toe officers will resign as a protest.
