CALCUTTA, Dec. 25

A gratifying response to the Viceroy’s -recent appeal to the people was embodied in the presentation at Calcutta yesterday of a most -loyal address expressing gratitude- for reforms and promising enthusiastic cooperation. wit’ll the executive authority. The ‘deputation consisted of one hundred of the foremost men from the two divisions of Bengal, also several extremist- leaders. Lord Minto, welcoming the address, said that no more momentous ‘assurances -had ever been offered to any Viceroy. They had struck the key note of that sympathetic mutual understanding whereon much depends.
