WANGANUI, Dec. 25. The Wanganui v. Taranaki cricket match Avas begun on a cloudy day and a sloav wicket. Taranaki in the first innings up to 5 p.m. had lost 8 tickets for 160 (Clegg 64 (not out), Summer 10, Robertson' 30, Gudgeon 16). C. Holland took five wickets.

LONDON, Dec. 24. The Cricket controversy is becoming lacute. Players mew with satisfaction the London “Sportman s advice to the Board of Control, while the supporters of the latter body point out that the £ (Sportsman cannot he regarded as an authority on cricket.

In connection with -Hill’s and Noble’s objections, the Sportsman advises the Australian Board of Cricket Control to go warily, and not be too grasping, for if it causes the de e tion of many leading players the Lnglish Board of Control would be quite justified in eliminating Australia from the programme, as the invitation was expressly given to'a representative Australian team.
