FATALITIES.

KILLED WHILE DIVING. [Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 26. ■ Ivan Pearce, 16 years of age, son of Mr. G. M. Pearce,-, manager of the New Zealand Insurance Company was injured when diving from the Vv aiwera wharf. He was carried ashore by other bathers, but died before a doctor arrived from town by a special steamer.

MAIL CART DRIVER KILLED

WELLINGTON, Dec. 26

Shortlv after midday to-day a simple but fatal accident occurred at the head of the Queen’s Wharf. W. H. McPhail was driving one of the maii carts loaded with bags and hampers for the s.s. Arahura, and when crossing tho railway lines the lorry bumped and apparently shook McPhail off. He was dragged along for a short distance, one of the front wheels pressing against his body all the time. The wheel would have ultimately passed over his body but for the ready action of a comrade who stopped the horse. He became unconscious, and was carried into the tally office of the Harbor Board. Dr. Young was summoned, attended the injured man. and ordered his removal to the hospital. Shortly after the doctor’s departure, however, McPhail died, before he could be shifted. He leaves a wife and family. FOUND DEAD. A man, apparently about 45 years of age. was found dead in Courtenay Place last evening. He has so far been unindeniified. There is a slight Gear on his neck. Medical men are holding an examination of the body to-day. A DOUBLE DROWNING FATALITY BLENHEIM, Dec. 27. A drowning fatality occurred in Pelorus Sound on Christmas Day, in which Percy Blackbie and Thomas Wakefield lost their fives. They fell overboard from a- launch., and the bodies had not been recovered on Saturday. Particulars are meagre, but it is understood that tlie deceased were residents of Havelock.
