HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE

WELLINGTON, Dec 28 The following cable has been received from the High Commissioner: —The Christmas trade is very dull. The market is quiet. The average prices for meat to-day are: Canterbury 3gd, North Island 3 3-sd. The lamb market is unfavorable; average prices are: Canterbury 03d, other brands 4d. The beef market is depressed, the supply exceeding the demand. There is no change in prices. The butter market is dull. New Zealand is at 108 s. The cheese market is steady, with an improved demand for New Zealand, which is at 58s. The hemp market is dull, but not changed in regard to prices. The Manila output is 20,000 bales. _
