THE CHRISTCHURCH COMPETITION.

CHRISTCHURCH, Dee. 29.
The brass-hand events in the Christchurch competition of the society s contest began to-day. The judge being Mr. Short, King's trumpeter. Grade G. was taken. The first event was the-JU hat cornet contest. 10 entries. Oniy live \,.m i '.hKthrr -. took pari. The judge selected Thompson (Elite Band) and Munro (Timam Marine) to contest the filial in the evening. There were only two competitors in the baritone section, both Elite bandsmen. The final will be played in tile evening. Three out of 'tour entrants played in the E fiat bass. Rowlands and Higman, both of the Elite band play in the final. B flat trombones and B fiat basses play a preliminary contest this afternoon, the chosen ones playing for the filial in the evening, when the grade B hands play the test selection
