ANNUAL RACE. MEETING

President: Mr J. A. Caesarj VicePresidents: Messrs A. H. Lewis, and E. F. Krause; Honorary Suijgeon: Dr C. F. Scott. Stewards: Messrs J. F. Pettie, D. J. Barry, F. McKenzie, H. Ruru, O. Monckton, M. Manuel, W. Fletcher; Judge: Mr W. D. S. MacDonald, M.P.; Starter: Mi' E. Devery; Handicapper: Mr C. J. Bennett; Clerk of Scales : Mr F. Evinson; Clerk' of Course: Mr A. Devery; Hon. Secretary: Mr Jas. Pettie. . . ■ The sixth annual meeting of the Te Karalca Racing Club which was held on the Te Karaka racecourse yesterday, proved a most enjoyable outing from, every point of view. The special train from Gisborne was crowded almost to excess. As people ■attended the races from all parts of the district the gathering present was a record one for the course, and the Club should reap a substantial profit from the meeting. The general management for the day left nothing to he desired. The trains stopped at the course and the public had no distance to walk. Every convenience was provided for those present. The races were well contested, and some fast times for the course were registered. The starter: Mr E. Devery, was most careful in the discharge o’i his duties. In one or two races there was a little delay caused 'by refractory horses, but Mr Devery remembered his duty to the public and did not despatch' his_ fields until all the horses were in line. The President, Mr J. A. Caesar, was hard at work looking to the details of the day, and saw that the riders were all weighed out in ample time for each event. Mr W. D. S. MacDonald, M.P.,- acted as judge, and faithfully discharged the duties of his office, while the "secretary (Mr J. Pettie) and 'his assistants, Messrs Sefton and Bayne, were untiring in their efforts, and were courteous and obliging to everyone. The day was one for backers, six favorites out of seven being successful, so that it may he gathered that the bookmakers did not have a verv successful day. After the Handicap" Trot, Mr Jas. Pettie paced his horse Sweet Patch up and down the straight, and the animal was greatly admired. Mrs Erslane had charge of the refreshment booth and served excellent afternoon tea and luncheon.
