ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE SCARLET TROUBADOURS

At His Majesty’s Theatre to-night and to-morrow night performances will be given by the “Scarlet Troubadours”, a company of English vocalists and society entertainers from ~~* London, who -are making their firstappearance in New Zealand under the direction of Mr Edward Branscombe. The company numbers eight performers, all of whom not- only enjoy English reputations, but claim individually to excel in some musical “speciality.” These alert entertainers promise to provide a thoroughly bright and artistic performance, carried through in spirited fashion, making fast and furious fun withoutthe' introduction of any element of vulgarity. By adopting these lines they have been able to secure the patronage not only of those who appreciate good music,- hut also those who like their musical palate tickled with harmless merriment. The methods adopted by the ‘ ‘Troubadours' ’ arc .novel and quaint, and much of their music is original, having been specially written for them. They not only sing their songs but- act- them, appearing in various costumes appropriate to the -numbers performed, thcv introduction of short scenes givingfr them opportunities of presenting soj fos with, choruses, quartets, aud duets from -either legitimate or comic opera, musical comedy or burlesque, these being intermingled with quips ana cranks and -plenty of irun-makuig-Referring to these performances the press speaks in the highest terms or both the part-singing and the ability of the company as soloists, and flattering allusions are made to tire versatility of these “morrie men and maids”. Tho “Scarlet. Troubadours havo already scored success in Australia. The plans of reserved seats are now open at Miller’s.
