GISBORNE FIRE BRIGADE.
PRESENTATION- OF PRIZES
There was a good muster of the members of the Fire Brigade in the Brigade Station last night, on the occasion of the distribution of the prices won at the competitions held on Boxing Day. Superintendent Townley presented the various trophies to the winners and in doing so said that he was exceedingly pleased at the result of the competitions, which had been so full of interest and information to those who had participated in thorn. All who had taken part, whether successful in winning a prize or not, must derive a great amount of benefit and he hoped to see many more friendly competitions amongst members of the Brigade. Th following is a list of the prizes presented in each event. Single manual: Champion medal, G. Wildish 1, A. Henderson 2. G. McLachlan 3. Second and third prizes were trophies presented by Messrs T. Morrison and H. J. Grieve. The. champion? medal was presented by the United Fire Brigades’ Association, and as it was tlie second occasion on which is his been won by G. Wildish it now becomes his property outright. Coupling (2 men) for medals presented bv Messrs .J. M. Lennon. R. S. Chilton, J. Thomson and H. Anderson. A. Henderson and D. Ferguson 1, Lapidge and Kane 2. Ladder Race, for medals presented by Messrs J. F. Pettie and AJf. Wallace: A. Henderson 1, G. Lapidge 2.Rescue (2 men) for medals presented by Messrs W. Webb. G. Lapidge and Pettie: A. Henderson and D. Ferguson 1, Lapidge and Kane 2. Hose and Ladder (o men) medals presented by Superintendent Townley : A. Henderson’s team 1. Hose and Hydrant (3 men) medals presented by Messrs T. Adair, T. Morrison, J. A. Lucas and Capt. Beere: Ferguson, Kirk and Beene 1; Henderson.. Thomson and Stuart 2. Consolation Race, for trophies presented by Messrs Williams and Kettle Ltd., and E. T. Harries: A. Russell 1, John Kane 2. Aggregate Prize, gold medal presented by the Borough Council, for the best all-round man in the shed: Won by A. Henderson. The following was the final aggregate result in tlie teams competitions: A. Henderson’s, team Spts, 1; G. Wildish’s team, 7pts, 2; W. Fraser’s team, 3pts, 3. At the conclusion of the prize giving a hearty vote of thanks was passed by acclamation, on the motion of Superintendent Townley, to Hie donors of prizes’, the judges, timekeepers, and other officials whose assistance had so materially helped to make tho competitions a success. The following members of the Brigade have been picked to go into training to tako part in the United Fire Brigades’ Association demonstration at Auckland on March 9, 10 and 12: Secretary G. Lapidge, Firemen I. McLachlan, A. Russell, H. Duvov, D. Ferguson, N. Kirk, J.' Stuart mid S. Brcingan. Six of the above will be picked to form tho team on Monday, January 18.
