MAY ROW HIS NEXT RACE THERE.

R. Arnst, tile champion sculler, accompanied by Fogwell and Floyd, paid a visit to Akaroa last week. The formal welcome took place at the Hotel Metropole, Mr. G. Armstrong, the Mayor presiding, and the healths of the visitors were enthusiastically honored. In 'the evening a public reception was given to the local sculler, Wheloli, on liis return from his match with Tlioroiighgood. The Mayor again presided, and Arnst, Fogwell, and Floyd were also on the stage. Throughout the evening the champion and his friends were introduced to those present, and received an ovation. Arnst, in the course of a speech, said that after having seen the harbor he had no objection ,provided he got the necessary support, to asking the next challenger to row the next race at Akaroa. Floyd and Fogwell also made complimentary reference to the course and their hearty welcome, the former remarking that he did not think there would be any difficulty in arranging a match with Whelch.

The champion has been invited to give an exhibition of sculling against a four-oared crew at Day’s Bay, on January. 9. A meeting of Arnst’s hackers is to be' held this week for the purpose of coming to a decision in regard to the proposed match with Barry, and whether, in the event of it being arranged, it shall be rowed in Australia or New Zealand, or whether Arhsf should be sent Home.
