GISBORNE’S CRIME RECORD. The figures relating to the .criminal record for t'lio past year are by no means pleasant to contemplate. According to tbe returns prepared by Sergeant Hutton, >and published in another column, the number of offences reported during the year totalled ■ 554, as against 445 for 1907.. These fignres, it must he borne in mind, relate only to Gisborne, and do not include outlying districts, eb that this notable increase in the crime
