The second biennial conference of the Now Zealand Federated Typographical Industrial Association was opened in Wellington to-day, Mr C. M. Chapman, President of the Federation, was elected chairman. He said the Federation now comprised seven branches (from Auckland down to (Southland) with a membership of over 850 and the conference was thoroughly representative of the craft. There was a growing opinion among members of the Federation that hand compositors should not be called upon to work more than fortyfour hours per week. The conference proceeded to discuss the desirableness of establishing a monthly Trade Journal, a. motion being carried to that effect. The delegates also considered the question of finance and management.
