A PREDICTION OF DROUGHT

MR. WRAGGE’S PROPHECY

DISCREDITED BY FEDERAL METEOROLOGIST.

United Press Association. Copyright (Received Jan. 8, 12.50 a.in.)

MELBOURNE, Jan. 7

Mr. Griffiths, acting-Federal Meteorologist, said it was not known why Mr. Clement Wragge had issued a, prediction of a big drought in Australia. The probability was that the statement was based on the supposed connection between the state of the sun and weather conditions of -the earth. Scientists were divided on the point, and there was no justification, for assuming that the connection is an established fact. Australian records do not furnish any indication of a coining drought in Australia.
