FROM THE GERMAN.

The farmer stands beside his field, And looks at it with angry frown,“The soil I have with labor tilled; With finest seeds I have it sown,; Yet see the weeds how thick they grow ! This is the Devil’s work I know.” Then runs to him his little boy; Filled are his arms with cornflowers -blue And poppies red. He shouts with joy : “I’ve plucked them in the field for you. Gee, Father, see this lovely show! ’Tis the good God who made them grow.”
