MAGISTERIAL.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 8
(Before Mr. W. A. Barton, S.M.)
DRUNKENNESS
Eugene O’Connell, who was arrested at Waerenga-a-hika on Tlmrsday, appeared to answer a charge of drunkenness.
Sergeant Hutton detailed the circumstances of the case, which have already been published in tho “Times,” and on his application accused was remanded for a week in order to obtain medical treatment. VAGRANCY. Ivv Fern Vowlcs, a young girl 14 years of age, stood in the dock on a charge of vagrancy. His Worship said it was only a few days previous that the girl had come before the Court on a more serious charge. Adjutant Dickens, who was in Court, said that he could make arrangements to send the girl to one of the Army homes, where she would bo under strict supervision. The girl agreed to this course, and Ids Worship said ho was glad Adjutant Dickens had been able to meet the case, as otherwise he would not have known what to do with her. unless he sent her to gaol. There vasno doubt the Army did a good work in such cases.
The girl wilT therefore be sent to the Army Rescue Home at Wellington on Wednesday next.
