Nasmith, senr. (22) heat W. H. Douglas (13).—This was an easy victory for the former, _ who lecl throughout. JT. Somervell (20) beat M. G. Nasmith, junr. (19).—This furnished an exciting finish. Somervell jumped away with a commanding lead, being 12 to 2on seven heads. On the 13th head Somervell led by 7 points, but Nasmith drew up‘to his opponent on' the 19th head—l 7 all. Somervell,made the game again level on the 21st head —l9 all. In the extra head Somervell drew the shot and obtained • the game. THE TOURNAMENT AT NAPIER. (Press Association.) NAPIER, Jan. 12. The Northern Bowling Association’s champion fours tournament was continued on the Napier and Greenmeadows greens to-day. The morning was but the sky cleared, shortly after play commenced,: and the remainder of the day was beautifully fine. On the Napier Club’s green Bluff ‘Hill met Victoria, and for a time it looked as if the local men were destined to suffer their first defeat. The score was Victoria 10 and Bluff Hill 4 on the eighth head. Bluff Hill then scored on every head till the nineteenth head, when they had 21 to their credit, Victoria still standing at 10. Victoria then scored one on the 20th, but Bluff Hill Avon the final head, winning by 22 to 11. Stratford had an easy win over Waipawa 'scoring 31 to 24. Turanganui and Petane played an interesting game till the thirteenth head, the score thou being 16 all. Turanganui scored on all the remaining heads excejit the eight-, eenth,~and eventually won by 30 to 21. Eltham and Waverley were 12 each on the twelfth head, but Eltham had all the best of the remaining play and gained the rink by 26 to 17. _ Pill ain a and Remuera’s game provided an exciting finish. On the fourteenth head Pihama Avere 16 to Remuera’s 9. hut, pulling themselves together, Remuera Avon the seven remaining heads, -and Pihama Avent under, by 18 to 16. Greemeadows had all the best of the game Avitli Wellington, winning by 25 to 13. Gisborne beat Fielding by IS to 16. after one of the keenest games of the da}*. Wanganui heat Karori by 37 to 16. The game Avas very even till the fifteenth head, but then Wanganui dreAV away, and Avon all the remainig heads except one. Manaia had an easy win over Dannevirke, leading throughout, and scoring 25 to 13. Greytown and Masterton Avere 10 each on the seventeenth head, but Master ton won the remaining heads and the. game by 17 to 10. Farndon defeated Kelburne. leading throughout and winning by 23 to 10. In the fifth round Greenmeadows met a signal defeat at the hands of Feilding by 37 to 13. Feilding scored eight on the thirteenth head. Waipawa defeated Waverley by 17 to 16, after a close game. Kelburne defeated Manaia by 21 to 12, having the'advantage all through. Stratford were defeated by Paliiatue by 27 to 12. the winners ahvays being in the van. A close fight Between Victoria and Petane resulted in favor of Victoria by 19 to 18. Remuera triumphed over Turanganui by 23 to 20, after a close and interesting game. Good games were also witnessed between Pahiatua (21) -and Eltham (18), Farndon (20) and Greytown (19), and Wellington (17) and Karori (16). In the Wanga-nui-Masterton match the scores Avere 13 each on the fifteenth head, and oxl the 19th Masterton Avere 22 to Wanganui’s 21. Wanganui put up six in the remaining heads and aa*ou by 27 to 22. ' Gisborne beat Daiinevirke by 26 to 14, after leading from the ninth head.
In the sixth round AYellington and Masterton played a most exciting game, AA 7 eJlington scoring one on the last head and winning by 16 to 15. Greenmeadows disposed of Karori by--34-to 11. Turanganui suffered defeat by 27 to .17. iii their game with Elthem. Kelburne beat Gisborne by 22 to 16 after an interesting game up to the fourteenth head. AVaipawa beat Pihama after an uphill game by 24 to 19. Greytown defeated Manaia by 28 to 18. Daiinevirke made a failstart against Feilding, -but were subsequently beaten by 26 to 14. Waverley scored a hollow victory over Pahiatua by 2 oto 16. Bluff Hill won on the last head from Petane by 24 to 23: Farndon wexe outclassed by AVaverley, who won by 38 to 12., On the Greenmeadows. green there were several excellent games. Napier ha.it St. John’s by 22 to 18’. Carlton heat HaveloCk by 23 to 18. Havelock beat Newtown by 22 to 21, and .Napier beat Hastings by 18 to 17. The game between Carlton and. Havelock was the best of the day. On the fourteenth head Calrton led by 18 to 17. Carlton scored two on the twentieth head, and on the last head, when Havelock were laying shot, Carlton came up, x-ested the laying howl, and cax’ricd kitty, and left them laying two, winning the match.
