SIR ROBERT STOUT’S ABSENCE.
ANOTHER,'JUDGE REQUIRED. [Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 12. The Council- of the Wellington Law. Society hold a different opinion to that expressed by the Attorney-Gen-eral as to the necessity for an actingjudge during'Sir Robert Stout’s absence, and have written to the Hon. Dr. Findlay urging that -another Judge should be appointed. They point out that at the November sitting, in particular, Justice Chapman said ho was unable to give appointments for the sixteen cases set down for hearing at that sitting, that lie was quite unable to give any appointments for several compensation eases which were awaiting hearing, unci that subsequently three of these eases wore disposed-of, but the remaining thirteen are still unheard; and appointments cannot be obtained before the 10th February, when the next civil sittings will commence. Besides the above there are on the banco list fifteeen matters to ho disposed of. Under the circumstances the Council suggest the (advisability of, some? measure being taken to provide for the disposal of business during _tiie expected ahsencc -of the Chief Justice.
