AN OFT-RUN WELTER.

PECULIAR RACfnIG INCIDENT. An extroardinary incident occurred at the annual Boxing Day races at Bland lord, near Alurrurundi, New Soutb AA T ales. Three horses went to the post for the AVeltcr Handicap, the horses running six furlongs at top speed. The starter declared it no •start, stating that he did not drop his Hag. The horses finished thus: Outcast (odds-ou-favourite), 1: Barrister, 2 ; and Lobelia,3. After a few minutes’ spell, the trio a-o-aiu started off on another six furlongs’ run, the starter declaring that it Avns sonic of flic public, ;and not xic, who despatched the field. The resultwas exactly the same- as the first time. , , ~ There was some ' trouble wnen it came to a third run. Two of the owners (Lobelia and Barrister) did not feel disposed to xiunish their horses by ,r ivin <T them two miles and sa-quarter straight off the reel, the latter also having to carry list 71b; but they were informed they could not scratch them, and must give the public a run for their money. However, after about an hour’s delay, and atter the committee had held a meeting, the three horses again camo to the post. Barrister’s jockey came out, carrying his “swag” hinder his arm, to pull weight; hut the committee would not allow this, and insisted on having it strapped on. Then the owner attempted to take the mount. After the owner had weighed out, and was ready to start, moro argument ensued. Eventually the original jockey got mounted again, and, with a roll of bags m front, iron wedges, and stones in his pocket lie got to the post. This time the, jockeys made sure or the starter making the stfcirt, and lor the third time the race was run, the horses finishing in exactly tlio siuno order each time.
