ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the subsenb•rs of tlie Turanganui Public Library .vas held in the library last night, the attendance was somewhat small, •oiisidcriug ,the importance of the liD-,-arv to the community at large, -Air.. Grant (President) occupied tho chair. Mr. G. Stock (secretary) read the i stance-sheet, which showed a very atisfactorv state of affairs. The teal receipts were £473 12? Bd, lndwl- ;!"■ subscriptions £236 11s 6d mid Government subsidy £l7 5s 6d. The exlenditurc totalled £468 Os (d, m•luding new books £67 10s 2d non japers and magazines £2O Ids. ino lalance in bank was £o 12s Id. Liabilities: Nil. Assets: 6240 books £712, furniture., fittings and fixtures £lB2. The following annual report was submitted :— I “The committee have again to congratulate subscribers up,n a verv successful year. Ihe number of subscribers m steadily incr iug, and now stands at oil. lumber of books now in the creuffit■ivr department is 6240, oi an in a ease of 639 during the yeai. During the vear the caid fcem lias been introduced m the circuiting department, and lias pro\ c '\ i cry successful.” Both report and balance-sheet were formally adopted ml the motion of Air. Grant, seconded bv Mr. Cuthbert. ’ , The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, - • G. Grant; vice-president, Mr. n. Cuthbert; committee, \ en. Arclideacon Wiliams, Messrs L E. &}»«,. L. Muir. G. Stock. M. Matheson, F. T. Morgan and Day; auditors, Messrs W. A. O’Meara and 11. AI. Poiter 'both re-elected). c . , , The secretary (Air. Q. Stock) ex pressed the opinion that- the coming vear should see some additional ex--K-ndituif in the linUlc.readmg room and after some discussion Air. bymes proposed that the ,Government ddv be spent in purchasing papers md extra fittings necessary. The motion was carried.,and a subcommittee, consisting of Alessrs Stock, Grant, and Day was set up to make the necessary arrangements. Some of the subscribers present esoressed the opinion that a few of the South Island papers should be hied in the public reading room. Subscribers and others were constantly pf these newspapers for reference and tho opinion of the meeting was thatthev should be filed. r l lie matter was finally left to the sub-committee. The meeting terminated with a tote at thanks to tlie retiring officers and to the secretary (Air. Stock). A similar vote was also passed to Air. Haw!ev. who for some time occupied tlie position of secretary.
