Mr. and Airs. H. J. Brownlee returned yesterday from a holiday in tho South.

Captain Beero yesterday received word from Wellington that in all probability Inspector-General of Military Forces. Colonel Davies, will arrive in Gisborne on official business towards the end of February. The Hon. J. A. Carroll, Native Minister, will, as soon as Ids ministerial duties ail Wellington permit, make an extensive tour through the Waikarelnoana, and ITrewera districts. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones, the re-cently-appointed High who is on his way to England, in a cable to Sir Joseph Ward, from Teneriffc, states that he and Airs Hall-' Jones and family are “all well.” All* R. Hay. C.E., Engineer-to tho Borough Council for the waterworks’ contract, arrived in Gisborne yesterday morning and went out. to the To Aral creek in the afternoon. It is probable that Mr. Hay will remain out at the creek to-day and return totown to-morrow.

Dr. Thomas Hodgkin, author of “Italy and her Invaders” and other historical works, and a pnuniuent member of the Society of Friends, will visit New Zealand within the few months. It is In’s intention to arrive in April and spend about threemonths in the Dominion. -
