Broken Hill was startled by a heavy explosion last night. It was found that the water main supplying block 10 had been blown up with dynamite.

WORKMEN UNWILLING TO REPAIR DAMAGED WATER MAINS.

SYDNEY, Jan. 15. Block 10 mine closed down at midnight, since when ii has been closely picketed. Ovbr 600 employees are idle. A number of mining officials and a posse of police remain in charge of the mine.
No -attempt has been made to repair the damage to The water pipe injured by last night’s explosion. Plumbers and other workmen decline to tackle the job, fearing that they will be placed on the black list. The Miners’ Executive strongly deprecate such actions., and are trying by all means possible to discourage acts of violence and destruction of property. They blame irresponsible persons who have not the good of the unionists at heart.

];ist night’s explosion, another bomb fully charged, vrith a 12-inch fuse attached, was found. It is rumored that some other mines intend to -close down shortly.
