WAIROA, Jim. 19. .** f . '/ : The first day’s races of the Wairoa Racing Club eventuated to-day in brilliant weather. The"* attendance was large, but would have been considerably augmented had' the large number of visitors detained in Napier boon enabled to come. The fields' were not 'large, but tlie racing avas good. Tlie decisions of the judge (Mr Len Storey) were never questioned, and Mr. Nightingale, the secretary, had all his arrangements in -perfect order. The Wairoa Band played at intervals throughout the day. No -accidents of- any kind marred the day’s enjoyment. The starting was none too -good, and in several races there was considerable delay at the post. The sum of £1914 \was put through the totalizator. In the Maiden Scurry San Toy -gave a lot of trouble, 'unseating her rider fully a dozen times .before the horses were got away. The Frasert-own Hack Handicap was a splendid race. The three placed horses came down the straight abreast, only separating just before passing the judge’s box, Nero forging ahead. The following are the results of the -racing:— Maiden Plate.—Hapuka. 1, Waratab 2; Twinkle 3. Also started: Kate, Bowstring, Mayflower, Mass Rexer, Ivaitakora, and Wairere. Time, linin 35sec.
Tyron Hack Handicap.—Martyr King 1, Gladsmuir 2, Banker 3. Also started: Water-o’-Milk. Time, lmin 16,sec. County Stakes Handicap.—Te Aral 1, Nero 2. Lord Bobs 3. The only -starters. Time, 2min llsec. Maiden Half-mile Hack Race. — Twinkle 1. iSteadv 2, Higlifioaver 3. Telephon’d Hack Handicap.-Niwa-ru 1, Hutirai 2, Albert- 3. Also started: ' N-galiere, Awanui, Tangitu. Time, lmin 4 1-osec. Frasertown Hack Handicap—Nero 1 Pluck 2, Mayflower 3. Also started : Te Wiwini. time, lmin 6 4-osec. Welter Hack Handicap—Perchance 1 Water-o’-Milk 2, Oiptain Jangle 3. Iffio only starters. Time, lmin 46 2-osec. _ . (Stewards’ -Hack Handicap.—Paisano 1, Mistletoe 2. Miss Rexer 3. Also started :Te Wiwini. Time, lmin 3scc. D ENDORSED [Press Association.] AUCKLAND. Jan. 19. At a meeting of the Metropolitan Committee held to-night- the disqualifications -recently imposed by the Avondale Jockey Club were considered, with the result that the following were endorsed: —S. Lindsay, owner and trainer of Royal Soult (two vears); Mark Rvan. rider-of Royal Soult (two years); A. Julien (=ix months), 11. Peel (12 months). P. Smith (six months). It was decider; to hear the appeals of N. Cunningham. A. Whittaker, and the owner oi Lucio on Thursday next.
