GISBORNE BANKRUPTCIES.
RETURNS FOR. LAST YEAR. The Deputy Official Assignee (Mr. J. Coleman), in his annual report states that the number of bankruptcies during last year was nine, representing liabilities of £7177, and assets £6062, as against 14 bankrupt-T----cics representing £5078 and assets £3OBO for 190 7.^ The liabilities as per statements filed in respect of the bankruptcies were as follows :
bankruptcies were: —-Laborers 3, builder and contractors 2, bootmakers 2, mechanic, painter, settler, veterinary surgeon, fruiterer and gardener, blacksmith, and ex-hotelkeeper 1 each. In 1907 three orders were made for immediate discharge, -and in one instance discharge was suspended. Last year four discharge orders were granted. . A
