COUNTRY NEWS.

POUAWA.

(From Our Own Correspondent

Station woi'k is well forward, weanin* and dipping having already been finished, at least all there were lelt to wean. The season has been a very successful one so far and large percentages iff lambs have, -been got off. In one instance 75 per cent, of the year’s lamb production have -already passed through the butchers’ hands. A considerable number of store lambs have been brought in and in a short time large consignments will again, be on their-way to the freezing works. The- season has been remarkable favorable, the Christmas rains just coming in the nick of time, There is at present an ample supply of fine fresh feed of which the farmers are taking full advantage. The roads, of course, are in fine condition, but unfortunately the same cannot be said of the Pouawa Creek. It is often at the best of weather that the creek is at its worst. Through the small flow of water in the sum-mer-time the month gets sanded up, thereby backing the water up, making the ordinary crossing impassable and frequently forcing travellers to go round by the month. This meant an extra half-hour on file journey to town ,anil still no bridge.
