A DENIAL.

(To the Editor.] Sir, —“Deep ditches that are u<dy and unsightly and AA*ere originally designed by one, if not tAA'o, of our local engineers.” This is a statement appearing in your paper of yesterday morning over the mime W. D. Lysnar, and is about as far away from the truth as* most of that gentleman’s assertions. This is the second occasion that this statement has been made by Mr. Lysnar, the first being to an honorable gentleman avlio is a Borough Councillor, stating that it Avas under my direction the drains Avere cut. This is Avliy I hoav ask you to alloAV me space to state that,, as chairman of the Whataupoko Road Board, or as an engineer, 1 have inwor authorised in any way or had anytiling whatever to do with cutting drains on the roads on Whataupoko or taken any -leveils for roads or any other purpose connected, with tho Whataupoko Road Board. Statements that are contrary to fact, like rolling snow-balls, _ gather Avoight and bulk if not quickly dissolved by the hot rays of truth. —I am, otc.j A FORDE MATTHEWS.
