MATAWHERO STOCK SALES

A large yarding of sheep, a small yarding of cattle and a small attendance of buyers ivas the order of things at the iveeklv sale of stock at Mat iivliero yesterday. Sheep saw a decline in value on recent quotations probably on account of the unusually dry season and tlie scarcity of feed. Ewes were yarded in large supply, but there ivas only a poor demand, ivbile lambs ivere neglected. The feiv cattle in the pens iiere all cleared, either privately or under the hammer at satisfactory rates. SHEEP. In all about 10,000 slieep ivere yarded, 8000' being distributed in the pens of (Messrs. Williams and Kettle, and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy., and about 2000 ivere divided between Messrs. Common Shelton ami Co., and Dalgety and Co. Some nice fat lambs ivere on offer and sold as freezers up to 10s. Fat wethers brought 11s lOd and fat ewes 11s 6d. Tlie stores, which consisted chiefly of breeding eives and lambs were a drag on the market, there being practically no competition and pen after pen was passed in. Store eives sold from 7s 9d to 9s sd; the pricnipal pens being 99 2-tootlis at 7s 9d, 102 2-tootlis at- 8s 6d.- 107 2tootlis at Ss 3d, (and 757 well grown eives at 9s sd. Wethers were wanted at a price, hut buyers were not prepared to bid a high figure so that feiv pens were sold. 71 iveH-groivn forwards brought 8s 6d, 300 forwards. 9s 9d, and w pen of SSS in prime condition 11s, but most of the pens were reserved for private treaty. Lambs met .a dull market, a poor dot of 224 sold as low us 2s lOd, while 3s was the best bid for a pen of 125. The top price of tho market was 7s lOd for a pen of 162 in forward condition, and the principal pens that changed hands wore: 130 at 5s 4d, and 36 Weill-forward 'at 7s 4d. 5 Shropshire lambs sold at £1 5s ivhide others sold from 2s 6d to 10s. A nice pen pt fat and forward lambs 'ivas passed m at 7s.
