A fine day, good racing, ,and an entire absence of accidents or protests Wore the auspicious circumstanstances under which the Gisborne. •Racing 01u ; b commenced their suminer meeting on the Park racecourse, Te Hapara, yesterday. There was a large attendance, but the effect of the decision of the club to limit the issue of ladies’ free tickets was made noticeable by only a moderato attendance of the fair sex. The recent improvements at the course greatly added to the comfort of patrons, the, outside stand being particularly popular. The course was in splendid order, and exceptionally fast times—particularly in the last race.—were the order of the day. The horses looked fresh and well, and some good racing was witnessed. Air. H. E. Dodd carried out the secretarial duties for the first time,_ and the outing was a credit to his management. The, committee, and especially Air. C. J. Bennett, were untiring in tlieir efforts te make the public comfortable. The stewards were not called together during the day, there being no occasion to question the result of any race. The Federal Brass Band supplied a very good programme of music, and Mrs.- Eirskine dispensed luncheon and afternoon tea. In the absence of Air. C. O’Gonnor, Air. A. Woods acted as starter, and his work was eminently satisfactory. Nineteen bookmakers were present, and £3346 was put through the totalisator, as against £4835 last year.
