MEN FOR THE CHURCH.
P RESIDENT ROOSEVELT’S VIEWS. It is interesting to got the views of tlic most-1 istened-to man of this century, President Roosevelt, on the need of the right men for the Church. Ho writes them Ip Mr J. R. Mott, a Canadian -author* says the “-Messenger,” .as follows:—“I very earnestly sympathise with the plea you make for tho strongest and best trained young men to turn themselves toward tho leadership of the aggressive forces that make for Christianity. Small, narrow, one-sided men, no matter how earnest, cannot supply leadership for tho moral and religious forces which alone can redeem nations. They can rlo good in tlioir own way; but in (addition to them, and especially for this particular work, the" strongest are needed—mfiu of marked personality who to tenderness add force and grasp, who show oapacity for friendship, .nixcl who to i\ hno character unite on intense moral and spiritual onthusiasm. I artiouhirly do wo need such forces m a nation like ours. . • ■ Our territories and our new States arc still pbmtie: Hu are still near enough the piom.ei days to he in film formative peiiod. 5 The cull of duty to undertake this .great spiritual adventure, this work for the betterment of mankind, should ring in the ears of young men who are high ot lieait and g. la lit of soul, as a challenge to tu.ru to the hard life of labor and risk which is so infinitely well worth living.”
