IN PURSUIT -OF BURGLARS

WANGANUI, Feb. 8

An exciting incident occurred lato on. Friday night. As two young men named Anderson and Hatrick wore passing the “Economic,” in the Avenue, they heard-a noise., and oir looking down a passage saw two men drop from a window into an alley way and make off in the direction of St. Hill street. Anderson ‘ and Hatrick rushed round the corner, and arrived just in time to sge the men getting over a gate. They accosted them, but the ■men bolted in different directions. When ono of them (William Scott) was in front of the Opera House lie threw away a package, and immediately’’ afterwards was captured and taken to tho police station. Subsequent search proved" that the package which was thrown away contained a sack, gelignite, and soap. On Saturday a young man' named Albert W av was arrested on suspicion oi bein<jr the other culprit. Investigation proved that no harm had been done at the “Economic,” the burglars evidently having been puzzled at finding two safes, and not knowing v Inch to i nerate upon.
