ATHLETICS.

A GISBORNE MARATHON RACE. Arrangements have been made to hold a Marathon race at Gisborne, and Mr. D. J. Barry has presented a handsome trophy for the event, which is to take jilace on Thursday, February 25th. The race will start at Ormond at 4 p.m., and finish at the corner of Grey. Street and Gladstone Road. The competitors will-start from scratch, and the sealed handicap will only be disclosed at Grey Street a quarter of an hour after all have started. A brake will accompany the runners, and any who find the struggle too much may forfeit and enter the vehicle. The following is the list of competitors: M. Griffen, A. Stokes, T. Cahill, W. Campbell, S. R, Dick; C. Drummond, A. E. McKenzie, M. Ingram, E. Lund, R. Flatman, T. Morrow, E. O’Neill, Don Miller, A. deLautour, P. Wyllie, C. Davy, S. Woodberry, J. L. Davy, P. O’Meara, P. Moore, IT. Anderson, P. Fishback, A. Lamond, and another competitor whose name has not yet come to hand. The list includes, a number of tho district’s champion athletes, and as the competitors have been training for some time, an exciting contest is anticipated.
