CRICKET.

TOKOMARU v. GISBORNE ELEVEN. The visiting team of Tokomaru cricketers played the second match of the tour yesterday, when they met and decisively defeated an eleven representing the Poverty Bay Cricket Association. The weather was fine, and the wicket good. H. Wack, who was elected captain of the town team, won the toss, and with, questionable judgment sent the Tokomaru team in to bat. The visitors ran up tlio respectable total of 140 in their first innings. J. Oates (37), W. Oates '(81; Skitch (19), and Connelly (16) were the principal scorers, and played good cricket for their runs. Farrell was the most successful bowler on the town side, capturing five wickets for 42 runs with his slows. Austin had a couple of overs, and bagged the last two wickets for 1 run. The town eleven collapsed on going to the wickets. The bowling of G. Oates (5 tor 44) and L. Reed (4 for 28) was afto-o-other too good for the majority of the batsmen. Nine batsmen wore clean bowled, and one run out. W. Gibson (34) and R. Adamson (19, not out) were tho only batsmen to score double figures. The innings closed for the poor total of 74. _ In the second innings, Tokomaru ran up 141 for seven wickets before time was called. J. Gibson, W. Oates, Connelly, Mill, and J. Oates played freely, and, despite frequent changes of bowling, kept piling the runs on at. a brisk rate. Adamson (3 for 19) was the only one of the seven bowlers tried to come out with anything like good figures. The victory, of the Tokomaru eleven was well received, as the members of the team have made themselves most popular by their sportsmanlike and /gentlemanly /behaviour, both on and -off the field.
