SPECTACULAR DISPLAY.
“THE BIRTH OF THE EMPIRE
Fully 1000 persons witnessed the third performance of this brilliant entertainment at the Garrison Hall last night. The various marches and dances, with their wealth of color, were most enthusiastically received by the large audience, and on several occasions throughout the evening most insistent demands were made tor an encore. A special feature of tin entertainment was a display ot patrol and ambulance work, including toe surprise of a picket by an imaginary enemy. The lights were lowered to represent night, and several sir. is were exchanged, making the affair ;most realistic. The result of theshoit engagement left one man wounded on the field, and the members of the Red Cross Brigade were loudly applauded when they appeared on the scene to attend to him. The entertainment will be repeated to-night, and in addition the physical dr squad whose performance was so ■much enjoyed on Tuesday night, will again go through their exercises. Another item of interest will he the presentation of a long-service medal to Private James Coe, late ot the Napier Rifle Volunteers.
