A CURIOUS DISCOVERY.

A HUT IN A CLIFF CAVE. [Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Feb. 11. A few days ago, while two lads were climbing on the cliffs facing the harbor, they came upon a hut very skilfully built into a small cave about 50it up the face of the cliff. ' A cavo had been enlarged, and a roof of half-inch kauri planks had been carefully made. The front rvas covered with sheets of ruberoid, coated with tar. Inside tho cave, were found articles of a very varied description, including well-made stretchers, a good assortment of carpenters’ tools, miner’s pick, a hand-mirror, a set or shearing apparatus, candles, cartridges, a quantity of fuse, a, couple or aurora lamps, methylated spirits, ia few magazines, a quantity of tea and sugar, a bag containing small metal from a quarry near at hand. Siibsequently a rope was procured, and Constable ‘Rings descended into the cave and'lowered the hut and its contents to the bottom, whence everything was removed to the police station.; The police are of opinion that tho man is some crank, and do not entertain the idea that the place was intended as a store-room for plunder. No tiacc oi the occupant has been discovered.
