FRASERTOWN

[FIIOM Quit CORRESPONDENT.]

Orange Blossoms. —A very pretty wedding took place in Christ’s Church, Frasertown, on Wednesday, 10th inst, the contracting parties being Miss Amy Howell Glume, fourth daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Clunie, and Mr. Albert E. .Harvey, eldest son of Mr. J. T. Harvey, manager of the Hawke’s Bay Motor Company, Napier. The service was conducted by the Rev. H. T. Bawnsley. The bride, who was given away by her •grandfather. Mr. I). Howell, looked charming in a dress of cream figured lustre, trimlined with silk insertion, and .she carried a handsome shower bouquet. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Bertha Harvey, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Eileen Garwood, niece oi the bride. The bridesmaids wore embroidered drosses, with floral sashes, and hats to match. Mr. Stanley Dickie acted as best man. The bridegroom’s presents to the bridesmaids were a gold necklet, with pendant, and a gold brooch. During the service the hymn ‘‘The Voice that Breathed o’er Eden” was sung, and the organist, Miss Rigby, played the wedding march as the party left the. ichurdi. The wedding guests were entertained-at afternoon tea by Mrs. A. Steed, sister of the bride. Tlio happy couple left for Gisborne, via Morere, during the afternoon on their honeymoon trip. The bride’s travelling dress was blue figured lustre, with hat to match. The presents were numerous (and valuable. A dance was held in the evening in Parker’s ’Hall.

At a meeting of the Frasertown Lawn Tenis Club held last week, Mrs. Mann and Miss Davis and Messrs S. Cave and N. Eccleston were elected members of the committee. Mrs. S. J. Stacey and Messrs A. E. Beckett and F. Couper were elected handicappers for the coming tournament. It was decided that the prize money for tho tournament should not exceed £-3.

The long-delayed work of constructing a bridge acres sthe Nuliaka River at Stewart’s Crossing was commenced last week, and some of the piles to support .the structure have been placed'in the required positions. Abridge across the river will he a great boon to the. settlors of the district, and tho travelling public, and it is to he hoped the contractors will endeavor to have the work completed as soon as nnc&ihla 1 Metal for tho Roads—A special grant of £SOO is to be expended m providing metal for portions of the Nuliaka and Tarewa road, £350 of tho amount will bo spent on the rood hetiA r een Nuhaka and Stewart’s Crossing, and £l5O on the Morere-Tarewa roach Tenders for this work arc now being invited. Motor Cars. —The report that several motor cars have recently passed through this district has created quite a. sensation amongst those settlers who drivo horses. To meet one of the cars on our narrow roads,-, .'on, sharp curves, is not pleasing to think about ; in fact, it would be dangerous, as in many places there are steep embankments on the roadside. _ Tho steady rain which set m on Thursday afternoon and evening, and continued through the night, should he very beneficial to the pastures and the newly-sown bush cleariilgs.
