An expert witness an a case before 'the Compensation Court at Wellington caused much amusement when being cross-examined as to the value of land in'lsland Bay and vicinity. Reference was being made to the disparity betweens the claims made by property owners for land compulsorily taken by public bodies and the amounts awarded by the Compensation Court. “I think.’’ declared the witness, ‘‘that the building up of these compensation cases ;s a science nowadays.” Even the presiding judge and the assessors smiled.
