AUCKLAND WOOL SALES [Phess Association.]„„. AUCKLAND, Feb. 16. Over 1700 bales were offered at the third annual sale of the season today. Contrary to expectation, there was good competition, local buyers bidding freely, and taking a fair share of the offerings. Prices wore as follows : Medium, crossbreds ranged from Gd to 7^cl; halfbred and fine crossbred up to Svd, which was the top price: coarse crossbred s .}d to 6-id: lambs skl to 7d; seedy lambs not wanted; stained and bush wools 5d to ssd: bellies and pieces 3d to 41 d. Better competition than at the January sales was noticeable for stained and bush wool, prices being from id to id better. Bellies and pieces also were rather hotter. High grade wool was about tlie same value as in January.

HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE. (Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Feb. 16. A cable-from, the High Commissioner, dated February 13th, states: The mutton market is depressed. There is a dull sale for all qualities. There is an inclination to force sales of mutton on account of River Plate shipments, which aro likely to increase. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 3id, and North Island 3 J ,d. There has been no alteration in the lamb market since last week. The beef market is weak. Supplies, of American chilled beef are large. Current quotations arc: New Zealand hindquarters 3gd, forequarters 2|d. The butter market is quiet, with a tendency in favor of buyers. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower; they are buying only what is necessary. Prices are irregular. Quotations for choicest Now Zealand is 109 s, Australian 107 s, Danish 118 s, Siberian 102 s. Tlie cheese market is quiet, but steady. There is a brisk demand for colored makes (owing to the short supply), which are quoted at 625. White makes are quoted at 60s. The hemp market is quiet, with small business doing. The following are current qu-''-’' : ons: Good, (fair grade, on spot) £24 10s; fair grade, on spot, £23; fair current Manila, on spot, £23 10s per ton. Forward shipments . are unchanged. Last week’s Manila output totalled 21,000 hales. The ccoksfoot seed market is very uncertain. Ther'o is scarcely any demand. The hep market is steady, with a moderate, demand. The -wheat market remains firm. The oat market is steady, with a very good demand. HOME MARKETS. United Press Association. Copyright LONDON, Feb. 13. Wool. —The Bradford wool market is firm, with prices unchanged. Business is restricted. Butter. —The butter market is very dull. The prices for Danish are unchanged. There is a limited demand for colonial. Choicest Australian salted is quoted at 104 s to 106 s (a few lots 108 s); unsalted. 108 sto 110 s; secondary sorts, almost unsaleable; choicest New Zealand 110 s.
