When arrested lie admitted that he committed forgery. At tho moment he had intended to repay the amount before sailing, but 'lie wanted the money for the honeymoon tour. [A former cable message stated that Duncan Mclntyre Johnson, in possession of £3OO, was arrested while on his honeymoon aboard the Suevic, which arrived at Plymouth from Melbourne. A warrant accusing him of forgery of a telegram and "obtaining £IOOO was issued.]
