FIGURES FOP. JANUARY
The exports from New cZaland for the month of January, as published b> the Commerce and Industries Department, based on Customs returns, show that the value of mutton exported was £92,959, or nearly £29,000 better than the corresponding month of lastyear. The value of the other exports, with the figures for January, 1908, in parentheses, were as follows: —Lamb, £129,543 (£75,412); beef, £44,006 (£20,108)'; cheese, £171,989 (£136,954); butter, £275,290 (£227,243); wheat, £22 (£34); oats, £9656 (£109); potatoes, £93 (£155); flax, £26,500 (£62,416)} wool, £908,299 (£1,136844); tallow, £39,566 (£29,128); skins. £46.261 (£55,788); hides, £10,045 (£10,538); hops, £494 (£1025); gram and pulse, £822 (£25); 'kauri gum, £37,147 (£37,082); tow, £1330 (£3,920); rabbits, £149 (£4056); timber, £15,047 (£35,732); gold £145,854 (£231,508). There are declines in value of tow, rabbits, hops, wool .and, hemp. New Plymouth leads in the value of butter, £98,814, Wellington follows £60,177, and Auckland is third £58,780. Patea leads with cheese, £58,577, Wellington is second £32,860, and New Plymouth 'third with £31,311, the Bluff comes fourth with a value of £28,860. Waitara is the biggest beef shipper, to the tune of £12,675; Wellington values are £9089. In lamb the premier position is occupied by Wellington, £40,529; Napier next with £37,416, and Lyttelton £20,637. The biggest mutton shipper is Napier £34,169, with Gisborne next £19,447, and Wellington £18,283. In wool the lead is taken by Napier with a value of £235.734, 'Wellington follows with £198,947, Lyttelton £104,935, and Gisborne £lOl,OlO.
