Several additions to the local staff of the Public Works Department are announced. Mr. Hannah, who has been chief clerk on the Main Trunk line, comes ho Gisborne, and an -assistant clerk. Mr. K. E. White, of Wellington, and Mr. Shannon, an engineering clerk, are also under transfer to Gisborne. This will somewhat relieve the Pesident Engineer (Mr. C. E: Armstrong) and his assistants of the- heavy quantity of work they have lately been called upon to undertake.
