POVERTY BAY GOLF CLUB. A special general. meeting of the Poverty Bay Golf Club was hold last evening at the Farmers’ Union Club rooms, Alasonie Buildings, to consider the selection- of new links-. Air. Geo. Grant, Vice-President, presided, and explained that the club were forced to find 'new links for next season- owing to their being unable to obtain some of tho paddocks through which the links had run during several seasons past. The club was fortunate in having secured the offers of two suitable porperties on which to form new links. Mr. W. D. Lysnar had offered the club the right to play over his property at Okitu, rent free, for five years, and would probably -increase the term to ten years, -while Air. R. J. Reynolds had also most generously offered the club the right to play over Ids fine property behind his residence at “Sand-own” rent free. The chairman stated that he had been over Mr. Reynolds’ property, in company with the captain of the club (Air. J. H. Bull), and considered very fine links could be formed there. It was for tho meeting to decide which site should be selected.
After discussion, during which the opinion was expressed that Okitu was too far from town to entertain the though • of forming links there, Mr. Bull moved —“That Mr. Reynolds’ generous offer bo accepted with thanks.” The m'otion was seconded by Mr. J. Howie and carried unanimously. ' Mr. F. AV. Nolan .explained that a team from Auckland would visit Gisborne at Easter, and if the new links were to be ready no, time should be lost in laying them out. He moved—- “ That a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs J. Howie, G. Grant, J. H. Bull, F. iH. W. Traill, Geoff. Willock, and W. R. Barker be appointed, with full power to arrange for laying out the course and getting the links ready for play.” The motion was carried. Mr. F. W. Nolan then moved the following motion, of which he had previously * given notice —“That this duh passes a rule providing that any 'person joining the club pays as an .entrance fee only. the. difference be-
tween tho entrance fee of tho club of which ho has been a member during the -preceding season, or is a member, and the entrance fee of this club.” Air. Nolan. explained that this ride was one which had been recommended to be adopted by all clubs, affiliated to the Now Zealand Golf Council. It was unfair that <a member who bad already paid -an entrance fee to bis club ; should be called upon to pay a second, entrance fee on joining another club. The motion wias seconded by Air. Traill, -and carried. Air. Rex. AVilloek brought up the question -of outstanding subscriptions, and .'said ho considered that the should take -n -firm stand in enforcing payment. He moved that it be an instruction to the committee to pass a rule providing that all members whose subscriptions a-re in arrears on the opening day -of the season be informed that they cannot play until their subscriptions are paid.” Air W. F. J. Anderson seconded the resolution, -which was carried. It was decided to hold tho annual general meeting of the club on Friday, Ala-rcli sth.
