Regains, ..s.s. The U.S.S. Co.’s Rakanoa arrived at midnight on Sunday and was loading sheep all day yesterday. She was expected to sail for Lyttelton late last evening with 3500 sheep, shipped by Air. O'. J. Black and Messrs AYilliams and Kettle, Ltd. The weather conditions prevailing yesterday considerably retarded loading operations, bint a special effort was made to despatch the vessel to time. The Westport Coal Co.’s Regains arrived yesterday morning from AYest port avith 500 terns of coal for th~ company’s local branch. The steamer berthed* at the wharf with the fu’ 1 tide -about 7 yesterday morning. She left her loading port at 3 a.m. -on Saturday, .and experienced good weather al Ithe way up, the trip occupying 48 hours. She will probably return to Westport this morning. Messrs Richardson and Co.’s Wokarrived yesterday morning from Napier with a igncral cargo, including 480 sacks of grass seed. She ‘returned in
the afternoon. The next Tvs or Co.’s steamer to , visit here will be- the twin-screw -vcssol Mai ■ere, 10,000 tons, due about I March 12 th. The Shaw. iSavill and Albion Oo.’ ? Mmaari is expected to finish load here this evening, wbn she will eaifor Napier and Lyttelton, the ini l ' ' place being her last port of call before sailing for London. The U.S.S. Cods Monowai. arrive.from south to-morrow morning early and leaves later for Auckland. The Huddart-Parker Co.’s Victoria is due from Sydney and Auckland on Wednesday afternoon, ancF- continue' her passage south in the evening. The barquentine Pelotas left Syd ney on Sunday for Gisborne.' The U.S.iS. Co.’s Squal .arrived fror Tologa Bay and Auckland last, evening with general ca r-go. She is due to return to Auckland this evening. Tire scow Waikonini arrived yesterday afternoon from Auckland with a cargo of 70.000 ft of timber, consigned to a number of local builders She left Auckland on Thursday, Feb ruarv 11th, and had a monotonous trip down the coast. The weather was fairly calm most of the way, and occasional south-easterly winds help ed to keep ilio ship from progressing At Hick’s Bap the weather was bad and she was compelled To anchor foi 18 hours. The schooners Kaeo and A wanin’ were sighted when passing Port Awanui on Saturday. When the "Waikonini was coming up the river in the afternoon, owing to a lighter being stuck in the channel, the scow, which was sailing up, was compelled to keep towards the groyne and consequently she also stuck, and was delayed for some time before reaching the wharf. The Maoriland Steamship Co.’s Lauderdale was completing her discharge yesterday. She sails to-night for Napier, having been unable to .leave port earlier owing to the factthat there is no berth available there or no trucks for the coal. f
