ARCHBISHOP’S RACING STABLE.
AN EMBARRASSING LEGACY
The Archbishop of Paris, M-on signor Amette, recently received an embarrassing ..legacy, in the form of 'a racing stable. The testatrix was the Viscountess do Raiinieville, who resided at the Chateau d'AHpnvijle, in tho Somme, and in a mansion in Paris. The viscountess constituted Monsignor Amette her sole legatee, much to the Archbishop’s surprise, for his Grace had no personal acquaintance with her. The legacy comprised the whole of the' lady’s . racing stable, which includes several thoroughbreds, together with a staff of stablcboys and two jockeys. A fresh embarrassment awaited the Archbishop when he decided to dispose of the horses, for on entrusting the sale to a well-known firm, the managers of another establishment claimed the Archbishop’s patronage, on'the ground that they were Roman Catholics. while the others were Protestants and Jews.
