BOWLING.
INTER-CLUB AIATOH. A scene pfi wnusual brightness and .animation was presented by the Gisborne Bowling Club’s green, yesterday afternoon, when the members; of the Turangaanii. Club attended to play a friendly match. This took place on four rinks, and so large was the muster. of bowlers that three other rinks were occupied with practice matches. The lady friends of the members of both clubs had been invited to witness the match,- and the presence of a large number of them gave additional charm to the scene. The members of the Gisborne Club (played hosts admirably, and the President (Mr. AY. Pettie) entertained all present with daintily served afternoon tea, dispensed by the Misses Hyde, assisted by several lady friends. The match resulted in the senior club winning at all four rinks, and securing a large majority in the total. At one a’ink, however, that in which Sawyer ‘was skipper of the Turanganui representatives, and T. A. Crawford skipped the Gisborne players, the former put up a very good fight, and mere beaten by three points only. They fell behind' in the earlier part of the game, but scored remarkably well in the later heads, putting up a total tif 21 points. The players and scores at the various rinks were as follows: No. 1. Pettie, Lucas, Morgan (skip) 22. The weather was exceedingly pleasant, the green was in good order, and tall present spent a thoroughly enjoyable .time. .At the conclusion of play, Air. AA r . Pettie. president of the Gisborne Club, announced the result of the' inter-flub mat-cli. expressing a hope that on the next occasion when the two clubs met the Turanganui players might have better fortune. Fie called- for three cheers for that club, which were heartily given by the Gisborne members.
The Turangaiuii men responded w.ith three hearty cheers for the Gisborne Club, followed by three more for its president. Then all the players on the green vociferously cheered .the ladies. M.r G. Alatthewson, president of the Turauganui Chib, expressed the thanks of the members of his club for the great kindness and hospitality extended to them, and remarked that they had had an exceedingly pleasant time, though they had met a not 'altogether unexpected defeat at the hands of the senior club.
