Owing to the unsettled weather and the soft condition, of the courts tho return match 'which was to have been played on Saturday between the Whataupoko and Gisborne Clubs was postponed until next Saturday. NEW ZEALAND TENNIS ASSOCIATION. [Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Fob; 27. The quarterly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association was held last night. The first- quarterly report of the management committee since the annual meeting in October last was presented. It was mentioned ghat New Zealand’s application to be declared >a separate nation for the purpose of the Davis Cun competition had been withheld until further notice, and that tho protest had been forwarded to the Australian Association against its taking any action in regard to the competition without first consulting New Zealand. The following rules , regarding professionalism were agreed to: —Any person is a professional who accepts a reward in any way of salary, commission or gift, other than a trophy won in competition or otherwise for playing lawn tennis; any person guilty of professionalism will be disqualified, but may be reinstated by motion of the Council. The receipts of the Nelson tournament were £l9B, aud expenditure £l4B. The secretary was 'instructed to cable to the Tennis Association in England, asking that New Zealand’s application to be made ia separate nation be withheld until further notice. ' The Sykes ball was adopted as the association’s playing ball. It was decided 'to send delegates to confer with the Australian Association to arrange a method of working together in -connection with tho Davis Civp competitions. WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY. [Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 28. The a gnu a l interprovincial tennis match, Wellington v. Canterbury, played in Wellington yesterday, attracted a large gathering of spectators, who were treated to a fine cxhibitian of tennis. The competitors were in good form, and there wore some close games. Wellington won by-five matches to four, fifteen sets to nine. The following are the scores: Singles. —Olliver {Christchurch) beat Swanston (Wellington), <s—6, 6—l, 7—5; 'Fisher .(Wellington) beat Goss (Christchurch) 6—4, 6—4; Peacocke (Wellington) beat Quill (Chnstclmrch) 6 —3, 6 —4 • Kiver (Christchurch) beat Symtho (Wellington), 6—4, 4—6, 6 4 - Pearso (Christchurch) beat Crown (Wellington), 6—4, 6—2, 2—6 (third set need not ha ve been played); J3onnington (Christchurch) boat \ouiig CWeilmgton), 6—5, 3—6. 7—o.
