SOUTH ISLAND MEETING. . \Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 27. . The fifth annual meeting of the South Island Rifle Association opened at Iledcliffs yosterady. when about 80 marksmen faced the targets. The local representation was certainly not so strong as the programme warranted, but visitors mustered in fiili force. These represented Invercargill, Alexandra, Queenstown, Oamaru, Tima-ru, Southland, Oreti, Dunedin, Riversdale, Amuri, Rangiora, and AVaimate, for the South Island, and Masterfcon land Hastings, for the North. Of the ex-South Island champions W. S. King, Gee, and Bradley are firing, while of the men who have made their reputations as shots at the Trentham meeting, there fare a large number. Most of the visitors have taken the meeting on their way to the big Trentham gathering, and as the original idea of the founders of the South Island Association was , that it should act as a practice meeting in view of Trentham, the gathering may he said to have fulfilled its functions.
