Sergeant Hutton received intimation on Saturday morning that liis son, Mr. James Hutton, who is a student of Victoria'College, lias passed liis M.A. degree with honors. Dr. Carlyle Wilson, accompanied' by Mrs. Wilson, returned from Wellington on Saturday. Dr. J. W. Williams returned by Saturday’s boat from South. The Rev. Thomas Ree, the newlyelected president of the New Zealand Methodist Conference, was born in Ireland in 1850, After a brief experience in business he entered the teaching profession, and taught for some years in Ireland. He came oxit to New Zealand in 1873, and carried on for a time his profession of teacher until he was called into He was trained for liis new work at the Methodist Institute and Three. Kings, Auckland. Since then he has labored in the ministry. Last year he devoted himself entirely to promoting the no-license movement, of which lie is a staunch advocate. Mr. Fee is a very witty and fluent speaker. The Rev. S. Lawry, the secretary of the New Zealand Methodist Conference, has had much previous experience in -connection with conference work, for years ago lie. was president of the conference, and for two years prior to that lie was secretary. Last year ho was also secretary to the. conference. Mr. Lawry is a wellknown minister, having occupied some of the most prominent circles in the Dominion.
